In the 14 years since my graduation from university, I have been shaped by things that I do for money and things that I do for love. Practically, I have searched long and hard for a synergy of those two things. Admittedly, a degree in Liberal Studies does not prepare a person for a specific job, and my focus in college was, impractically, about learning whatever happened to interest me at that time. I am a person that is interested in many things, so this lead to me changing my major three times. I was the first person in my family to go to college, and I didn’t have a lot of practical guidance.
It took 9 years, 4 jobs and two cross-country trips to find my way to teaching. What I had finally realized was that teaching is what came naturally to me. I was always informing people of things that I knew and cared about, and I was always working to get my friends and colleagues to increase their knowledge of things. So I combined my epiphany and a desire to see more of the world and went to China. Then Indonesia. Then Korea. Then I traveled with world for four months and finally ended up here in Taiwan- a place that I have felt drawn to since the first time I visited in 2014.
